Amylin Pharmaceuticals Instrumentation Procurement & Metrology Amylin Pharmaceuticals needs to rapidly increase their manufacturing capacity to meet the demand for their medicines. They have embarked on a multi-stage plan to build a new manufacturing facility with an aggressive schedule. To reduce the risks of missing critical deadlines, Amylin has selected a team of professionals experienced with GMP facilities and fast-track construction. Hallam-ICS was selected as part of the engineering design team and for the instrumentation procurement and metrology. Initially, Hallam-ICS was brought on board to support the control system design of the Building Management System (BMS) and Plant Utility System. Hallam-ICS was responsible for developing the instrumentation index and I/O schedule, instrument data sheets, functional requirement specification (FRS) development, loop sheet design and assistance in finalizing the P&ID’s. The BMS included all aspects of the HVAC system, including Air Handlers, Exhaust Fans and VAV/CAV control. The Plant Utilities included boilers, chillers, cooling towers, hot/chilled water distribution and steam systems. Overall, the system included nearly 1200 I/O points. Hallam-ICS was then selected to be the metrology and instrumentation contractor for completion in Q3 2007. Hallam-ICS is responsible for the procurement of approximately 2000 devices and the calibration of nearly 4000 devices. All devices need to be received, bench tested, installed, inspected and field calibrated. Hallam-ICS will compile all necessary documents for the Equipment Turnover Package (ETOP) to support validation. In addition, Hallam-ICS will provide start-up support of the systems for the control system integrator. Hallam-ICS is utilizing it’s proprietary instrument tracking database to track the status of each device on the project and making this database available to the construction team. This management of information will prove valuable in assisting the project team to meet the critical deadlines for the project.
