Process Control and Plant Automation
My automation journey started when a professor in college introduced me to the world of industrial controls. I gravitate towards work that involves complex problem solving, hands on manipulation, technology and moving parts. The ideal career would allow me to take control of my own success and learning, delve as deep and rise as far as I desired, and work on interesting and diverse tasks. Working with logic, manipulating controls for a desired outcome, and seeing the end results was exhilarating and I felt it a perfect fit.
In my first position I gained a wide range of skills as I worked on a variety of projects including electrical and control panel design, PLC programming, drive setup and testing, machine commissioning, data collection, vision interface design, and robotics. I especially liked the hours spent tackling logical problems with code and working with customers to tailor the system to their needs.
In 2021, I married my husband and took a new controls position in Texas, which was more programming oriented. There I became familiar with more efficient processes of controls engineering and became a better programmer overall. Additionally, I jumped into desktop application development, web development, and pc programming. When the company founder passed away, leadership and the goals of the company changed, and my position no longer fit with their future trajectory and focus area.
In my search for a new position, I prioritized companies who exhibited great upper management, transparency, stability, and care for their employees. Although a couple options showed promise, Hallam-ICS stood out to me in going above and beyond to give back to their hard-working employees. I was impressed with their employee benefits, ESOP program, work environment, and history from the creation of the company to it becoming an employee-owned business today. I joined Hallam-ICS in 2023 and thus far my experience has matched what they led me to expect in their well-guided management, care for employees, and benign work environment. They have worked with me to develop my career and position in the company to fit my interests, strengths and growth potential. Not only is the work rewarding, but there is a fun community to share in as well. I look forward to a bright future with Hallam-ICS.
