Owen Prather
Electrical Designer
With Hallam-ICS Since 2026
I knew I wanted to become an engineer in a very traditional way – I loved problem solving, and mathematics had always been my favorite subject. However, when it came time to decide which engineering field to pursue at North Carolina State University, I was completely unsure. I spoke to family and friends to get their opinions, but it was talking to my grandfather that really persuaded me. He had recently retired from a long career and told me that his degree in electrical engineering had really allowed him to create the career path he wanted. I decided to follow his advice, and I am very glad I did.
After receiving my degree, I began my job search. There were many qualities I was hoping to find in my first full-time position, whether it be strong professional development, a collaborative work culture, or a company with robust values. I expected to land a position with a company that had only one of these qualities, so when I came across Hallam, I knew I needed to apply. After reading employee testimonials, learning about their strong work culture with an emphasis on a work-life balance, and googling what an ESOP is, I couldn’t imagine finding a better company. Now, I am a part of the Electrical Safety Analysis team in Apex, North Carolina, and feel that I am in a place where I can continue strengthening my professional and technical skillset.
