Fab 8 Toxic Gas Monitoring System
The system is based upon Allen-Bradley ControlLogix PLC’s and GE Cimplicity front-end, while utilizing Honeywell gas detection equipment.
Challenge
GlobalFoundries has endeavored to become the largest leading-edge semiconductor foundry in the United States. To support this strategy, GlobalFoundries has committed over $7 billion to building their campus at Luther Forest Technology Park in Malta, NY including the construction of Fab 8, which was a significant undertaking with an aggressive schedule. To select a provider of the Toxic Gas Monitoring System (TGMS) for the site, several criteria were identified:
- Ability to meet fast-track schedule
- Attention to detail (Life Safety System)
- In-house design, programming and commissioning
- Financial strength (bonding to $10 `million)
Solution
Hallam-ICS met all of these requirements and was chosen for the TGMS. Hallam-ICS is a recognized leader in the design, installation, programming and commissioning of TGMS in semiconductor manufacturing and research facilities. Our experience includes the design, installation and integration of over 6,000 gas detection points. These points include highly toxic, toxic, pyrophoric, flammable and oxygen deficient detection points.
Utilizing past experience, Hallam-ICS assembled a multi-disciplined team to work with the construction manager and GlobalFoundries. The system is based upon Allen-Bradley ControlLogix PLC’s and GE Cimplicity front-end, while utilizing Honeywell gas detection equipment.
The Hallam-ICS team worked diligently to meet the key project milestone dates while also thoroughly testing and commissioning the system to insure a safe and reliable manufacturing environment.
