Process Control and Plant Automation

New call-to-action

Sam Lacasse | Controls Engineering Manager

I am a Senior Process Controls Engineer. I design and program industrial controls systems ranging from small machine control to large process control systems. I have been employed by many different and interesting companies, primarily for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and engineering firms. They all seemed to have one thing in common, great people. It is no different here at Hallam-ICS. What was most compelling about Hallam-ICS to me was the level of professionalism with everyone I met during my interview. The main reason for wanting a change in my career was the need to serve a more diverse customer base using the newest technologies to deliver the highest quality services.

Hallam is a place where professionals can come to experience the freedom to develop and grow. Hallam-ICS promotes new and inventive thinking to promote a business model that evolves with the needs of our clients and the industries in which we serve.

One of my first opportunities at Hallam-ICS was getting familiar with and supporting the toxic gas monitoring systems (TGMS) that serve the higher education and semi-conductor industries. My past experience and support from the TGMS team resulted in a quick ramp up period. The clients I worked with were very knowledgeable in the systems deployed at each site. This was a refreshing change where the clients worked closely to ensure the success of the project.

My second opportunity was with Edesia. Edesia is a non-profit organization producing lifesaving ready to use food products. The Hallam-ICS team was contracted to design the control system which, oddly enough, was the result of a service call for their existing control system. While attending the first few project meetings I was able to watch this controls system project transform into a full system design. This was achieved by my manager Jeff Silcox listening to the client’s needs and stating something to the fact of “this is what we do, we are a full service MEP firm”. When the project was complete, it was a huge success! The work continues at this site and will for a long time to come. This is the first project where my wife was able to tour the facility at the grand opening event to see what I do. This was a great source of pride for me that was made possible by Hallam-ICS.

One of the goals set for me was to help grow the control system business in our local area (MA, RI &CT). A good case in point of growth and developing our local business would be a request we received through an employee Tom, whom I had recruited from a previous employer because he fit the mold here at Hallam-ICS. Someone had heard that Tom worked for a firm that designs and implements industrial control systems. So that opened up an opportunity to review a site, Jade Engineered Plastics that actually make parts we used on the Edesia project. What a small world!

In summary, our future looks bright. The culture here has afforded me more time at home with my family. My stress level has been reduced and I feel better about myself and the company I am now part owner in.

I would like to thank our clients and the entire Hallam-ICS team.
