Pfizer Continuous Film Coater
We approach our work from a Whole Facility Design Perspective, resulting in elegant, efficient engineering solutions that are practical and reliable, maximizing your long term benefit from your facility.
Challenge
Established in 1960, Pfizer’s Groton site now serves as the headquarters for the company’s Global Research and Development operations. Over the years, the campus has expanded to encompass 160 acres and 2.8 million square feet of state-of-the-art facilities. When the addition of a Continuous Film Tablet Coater necessitated architectural and infrastructure upgrades, Pfizer partnered with Hallam-ICS to deliver comprehensive commissioning and validation services.
Solution
We worked closely with the owner, the construction manager, and their subcontractors to provide commissioning and validation services that kept the project on track, on schedule, and allowed Pfizer to meet their overall operations schedule.
We provided the following technical commissioning services:
- Cx Plan
- Submittal Review
- Pre-Functional Checklist Generation and Execution
- Witnessing Contractor Testing
- TAB Review
- Functional Test Script Generation and Execution
- Issue Logging and Tracking
- Training Review
- Equipment tracking into client’s Asset Management System
- Final Commissioning Report
And the commissioning scope included the following systems and equipment:
- Air Handling Unit
- Dust Collector Unit
- Filter Unit
- Exhaust Fan
- Wall Mounted Utility Panel
- Nitrogen Piping
- Clean Compressed Air Piping
- Low Pressure Steam Piping
- Condensate Piping
- Lab Waste Vent Piping
- Chilled Water Piping
- 14 Electrical Panels
The validation services included generation and execution of Test Procedures for the Clean Compressed Air and Nitrogen Systems as well as the final Validation Report for the following systems/spaces within the validation scope:
- Validating additions to the Clean Compressed Air System
- Validating additions to the Nitrogen System
Pfizer is committed to executing a commissioning process that ensures that all systems are complete and function properly prior to occupancy and that the facility maintenance representatives have adequate system documentation and training, a validation process that ensures regulatory requirements are met, all while maintaining the strict operations schedule.
The owner appreciated the Hallam-ICS commissioning methodology, where we go above and beyond industry standard. We performed the pre-functional checklists as we do so on 100% of the systems/equipment.
Results
Our team accomplished the following:
- Seamless Project Execution: Hallam-ICS ensured Pfizer’s Continuous Film Tablet Coater addition stayed on schedule by delivering comprehensive commissioning and validation services, coordinating closely with all stakeholders to meet strict operational timelines.
- Enhanced System Reliability: Through rigorous pre-functional checklists, functional testing, and validation of critical systems like Clean Compressed Air and Nitrogen, Hallam-ICS guaranteed that all equipment met performance and regulatory standards before occupancy.
- Comprehensive Support and Documentation: Hallam-ICS provided thorough documentation, training, and equipment tracking into Pfizer’s Asset Management System, equipping facility teams with the resources needed for long-term maintenance and compliance.
