Hallam-ICS LEED Accredited Professionals are knowledgeable in the Energy and Atmosphere (EA) Prerequisite Commissioning, Enhanced Commissioning and Measurement & Verification requirements. Having commissioned a number of sustainable buildings we bring our familiarity with current Good Design, Construction, Commissioning and Operating Practices to a project.
Challenge
Yale University sought to renovate the historic Schwarzman Center, a 122,000-square-foot building home to iconic spaces like The President’s Room, East and West Balconies, and The Dome, aiming to achieve LEED v4 Gold Certification. This involved modernizing complex, interconnected MEPC systems while preserving the building's architectural integrity, as well as ensuring updated safety and functionality to support its role as a student and community hub.
Solution
Hallam-ICS led a thorough commissioning process, starting at the design phase and carrying through construction, functional testing, and warranty phases. Fundamental and Enhanced Commissioning, Monitoring-Based Commissioning (MBCx), and Building Envelope Commissioning (BECx) services were integrated into the project to ensure system reliability, efficiency, and adherence to LEED standards. Hallam-ICS oversaw the installation of extensive MEPC upgrades, including air handling units, steam systems, and emergency power upgrades, to maintain both operational goals and historical significance.

Our team accomplished the following:
- Supported Yale’s sustainability goals, securing LEED Gold Certification for the Schwarzman Center.
- Enhanced operational reliability, aligning historic spaces with modern safety standards.
